Manufacturing Metalsistem

The manufacturing process at Metalsistem is almost as unique as the shelving itself! One of the most fascinating transformation processes of steel takes place at the Metalsistem manufacturing facilities. Research and technological evolution have allowed Metalsistem to create a top of the line roll forming process that efficiently forms bland steel coil surfaces.rolls

So how do we do it?

First off, Metalsistem purchases galvanized structural steel coils in standard widths varying from 1.00 to 1.25 meters. The steel is galvanized with a high quality zinc coat that ensures a high level of durability! This zinc coating ensures that
our products have elevated resistance to rust and other elements.

Once the coils arrive at the manufacturing facilities, the coils are slit into widths that will satisfy our diverse catalogue of Metalsistem products. These slit coils are then transformed using one of the following processes:

Roll forming

Brake pressing

rolls3Roll forming is usually used to make our standard frames and add-ons. During this process, a ribbon of  steel is continually passed through a series of rollers which reform the metal until the perfect shape is achieved.

Brake pressing is generally used to create items with smaller dimensions, such as our accessories. This process uses a single action to punch out the required form from a sheet of metal through the use of a press.

Once everything is complete, all Metalsistem components are subjected to regular and rigorous technical tests to ensure that they are safe, sturdy and top of the line.

The Benefits of a Properly Organized Warehouse

Make an Organized Warehouse Work for You

Are you getting your warehouse organized for your new business to run smoothly? Is your existing business in turmoil, thanks to a chaotic warehouse? Either way, never fear: These tips for maximizing efficiency are universal, and can help your warehouse operate like a well-oiled machine. It all starts with the right shelving unit, but it doesn’t end there.

Chances are, your inventory is as diverse as you can make it. After all, relying on one single item usually doesn’t make a lot of sense. So when you are setting up your warehouse, you’ll want to categorize your merchandise in several ways. One of the most overlooked ways is “size.”

Small Pieces – Middle Shelf

Start with the smaller items – handheld, nuts-and-bolts stuff. The shelving units you selected will naturally have a number of shelves. You’ll want to store smaller items on the mid-level shelves – ideally between hand level, and eye level – in the proper drawers and bins. This is to help expedite the “picking and packing” step of the process. If your shipping department has to climb a ladder or stoop down for these easily grabbable items, that’s time wasted. It may seem like only seconds, but over time, those seconds become minutes, hours, and even days. And of course, time is money, so pennies become dollars, just as quick.

Heavy Merchandise – Bottom Shelf

Conversely, your business may also handle larger, bulkier, heavier inventory as well. It wouldn’t make much sense to store those high up in the rafters, would it? Nope. Keep some space for the heavy merchandise on the lower shelves, for the very same reason. Less effort to put away. Less time to take out. And yes, less money wasted. Just be sure you select a shelving unit that is strong enough to handle the job.

Rarely Used Items – Top Shelf

If you have items – displays, P.O.P, or archival materials, for example – that you only use very infrequently, you should try to store them up on top of the shelving units, where they are out of the way and don’t interfere with your shippers.

Have A System, and Stick To It

Fortunately, there are several high-quality inventory management software programs to help your business run smoothly. The proper program lets you see what you have on your shelves at the click of a button. And having that information automatically update in real time allows you to order smart – so you don’t end up with a shipment of 10,000 widgets you’ll never sell through in 100 years.

After all, your business needs inventory that collects money – not dust.

The Key to Home Auto Repairs

Do You Have The Right Shelving Units for Your Home Auto Repairs?

Believe it or not, the average car has 30,000 different parts. That’s 30,000 opportunities for something to go missing, something to be misplaced, something to be tucked away in the wrong box, never to be seen again.

That’s why, when you’re doing home auto repairs, organization is of paramount importance. From routine car maintenance tasks like changing the oil, to major home auto repairs like completely rebuilding an engine, a garage lined with the right shelving units can make the job go smoothly.

“Before anything else, preparation is the key to success.” –Alexander Graham Bell

What, you ask, are the right shelving units? That’s for you to decide. Every garage will be different, and you want to make it unique to your own needs and tastes. But there are a few universal qualities you’ll want to look for.

Easy to Assemble Shelving Units

If you’re looking to construct your dream garage with just you and a couple of friends, you will need to invest in shelving units that are modular, so you can assemble it yourself, and versatile, so that you are able to customize your shelving units to fit the space you have

Accessory-Compatible Shelving Units

Because all 30,000 of those car parts have to go somewhere, you will need a shelving unit that can be diverse, as well. Spark plugs can go into a bin. Tools can be organized into drawers. There are even special racks designed for tire storage! If you’re planning on organizing for parts of varying shapes and sizes, make sure you have the accessories for the job.

Strong, Sturdy Shelving Units

Of course, one of the most obvious elements of a high-quality shelving unit is its durability. Not every car part is as light as a hubcap, you know. Look for a shelving unit that’s made of high-tensile steel, and has a weight capacity that’s been certified by a credible governing board.

Take a look behind the counter of any auto parts store – you’ll notice racks upon racks of high-grade steel shelving units that are all highly organized – so none of those 30,000 parts ever go missing. It’s no different than if you are trying to organize your personal garage. Proper organization – and proper shelving – are both important elements of any home auto repairs. Alexander Graham Bell is right – preparation is the key to success. With the right shelving system in place, you’ll know where everything is. And if you’re organized, you’re already halfway there.

Is Your Warehouse Earthquake-Proof? (Part 2)

Creating An Earthquake-Proof Solution

As you read last week, the earthquakes in Los Angeles and off the coast of northern California were relatively minor, but they very easily could have been devastating. Great big earthquakes can cause buildings to crumble, and even minor ones can turn an organized, efficient warehouse into a chaotic mess.

Ask yourself this: If an earthquake were to occur directly under your place of business, how well would your warehouse survive?

Shopping – And Storing – is Big Business

Stop for a minute and think about how many stores there are in the U.S. alone. Now think about where all that merchandise does when it’s not being sold. Every store has a store room. And every manufacturer has a warehouse. And every distributor. And so on. What do all these things have in common? The manner in which they are all stored.

Rethinking The Modern Pallet Rack

From a distance all pallet rack units look similar – strong, broad, easy access to goods. But if you think that all units are the same, then take another look.

Due to the constant threat of earthquakes, and other impact events,Andrew Kirby and Hannibal Industries set out to create a material handling solution that could withstand the tremors and quakes of a seismic incident. And soon, that invention became TubeRack.

The TubeRack system features a dual-moment frame that permits flexibility front to back, as well as side to side. This gives TubeRack the ability to withstand earthquakes and impacts, greater than other shelves.

Inventor Andrew Kirby, who is Hannibal’s long-time engineering consultant, had been working on the earthquake issue for several years before inventing TubeRack: “TubeRack has set its reputation as the stronger, safer racking system that provides a lower overall cost of ownership,” he says – a claim that has been corroborated by its many satisfied customers. In fact, in 2005, when FEMA released a 160-page report that specified recommendations for structural improvements to buildings and storage racks, Kirby was already well on his way to address these new concerns, so TubeRack not only met all new federal recommendations and standards, it surpassed them.

If you’ve got a warehouse, then seismic activity and other impact events should be on your mind. You may not be able to predict, or control, natural disasters, but you can prepare for them.

The Advantages of TubeRack

It’s Easy To Assemble: TubeRack’s modular design makes it easy to put together – no welding – and, because the components are all interchangeable, the length and width of each unit can be increased as needed.

It’s Versatile: It was designed specifically to adapt to your existing environment – TubeRack possesses the ability to be mounted on existing slabs, to provide greater storage capacity than most existing racks.

It’s Lightweight: Even with all the durability, TubeRack’s design includes hollow metal posts to decrease unnecessary weight.

Is Your Warehouse Earthquake-Ready?

There’s an old saying that goes: “You can plan for everything – except what’s going to happen,” and unfortunately, it’s quite often true.

Take earthquakes, for example. Seismic activity is unpredictable, and the potential for destruction is almost limitless. But you can protect yourself – and your business – with the right shelves.

Earthquakes Can Be Costly To Your Business

The recent earthquake off the coast of Northern California was a poignant reminder of how the unexpected tends to happen when you least expect it. Although the quake was approximately 50 miles off the coast of Eureka, it measured in at a 6.8 on the Richter Scale, and the tremors were felt as far inland as Sacramento. Although there was no official tsunami threat, more than a few coastal residents kept one eye on the horizon, half expecting a tidal wave.

And even more recently, Los Angeles, California experienced a 4.4-rated quake. Granted, that’s a relatively minor tremor, but the big ones can cause mass destruction. In 1976, the Tangshan earthquake in China took an estimated 240,000 lives. It was a 7.8,

How Can You Protect Yourself?

The lesson to learn here is this: If you’ve got property or inventory, an earthquake – even a smaller one – could create costly damage. And the more you have, the costlier it could become.

In 2005, a wave of quakes affected a small section of the Italy, but resulted in a multi-billion-dollar blow to the economy. Foundations cracked and some buildings fell, but it was the loss of inventory that struck a colossal blow. Manufacturers of balsamic vinaigrette and Parmesan cheese had entire inventories rendered unsellable. Aged barrels toppled to the floor and split open, great wheels of cheese fell to the floor by the hundreds. It was devastating.

However, there is another old saying: “Before anything else, preparation is the key to success.”

The Right Shelves for the Job

With that in mind, Hannibal offers high-density high-grade Metalsistem shelving units to stand their ground – even when the ground itself doesn’t. Super 1-2-3 is a popular shelving unit made from high-tensile steel, and is certified according to EN 10204 3.1. In addition, Super 1-2-3’s safety is recognized by TÜV Product Service in Munich, Germany, and also meets the strict requirements of the Equipment Safety Law.

The Unirack USP series is yet another design that offers even greater protection against seismic tremors. With solid shelves in place of beams, Unirack USP offers an unparalleled stability and a load-bearing capacity of greater than 10,00 lbs per unit.

So whether you’re setting up your garage, small business, or massive warehouse, you want a storage solution that prides itself on stability, durability, and strength.
